ALEX TOMPKINS
WHAT’S YOUR NAME AND ROLE, AND WHAT DIVISION DO YOU WORK UNDER AT THE CROSSING GROUP?
My name is Alex Tompkins, and I’m a Foreman at The Tunneling Company.
WHERE DID YOU START AND WHAT HAS YOUR CAREER PATH BEEN LIKE AT THE CROSSING GROUP?
I joined The Tunneling Company in 2019 as a Journeyman Welder. After two years, I was promoted to Foreman and have been in that role ever since.
WHAT’S THE MOST REWARDING (OR FAVOURITE) PART OF YOUR ROLE?
The most rewarding part of my job is pushing the boundaries of what is possible with conventional Auger Bore equipment. Whether we’re working with our Hydro Hammer Extractor to pull lengths of pipe that wouldn’t otherwise budge, or saving clients from having to open cut rivers — I’m very proud of how we use our technology to solve problems and limit impacts on the environment.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT WORKING AT THE CROSSING GROUP?
I enjoy traveling for work, which allows me to see new and remote places for every project. For example, I was able to work on nearly every spread of The Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion during the years the project was active. I met a lot of great people from The Crossing Group and beyond, and ran into many colleagues from years past which made for a very enjoyable experience.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE CULTURE AT THE CROSSING GROUP?
No job is too big or too small for our team. We take immense pride in being pioneers of Trenchless Technology.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE LOOKING TO WORK IN A ROLE SUCH AS YOURS AT THE CROSSING GROUP?
Don’t be afraid to rise to a challenge. Perseverance is the key to having a successful career in this industry.
