HDD Rig Manager

Description:

The Rig Manager position is responsible for overall management of rig operations to ensure the accomplishment of planned objectives. Revenue expenses, rig operations, training, development, HSE management, and equipment maintenance are key responsibilities while creating a high degree of customer satisfaction through daily communication with our customers.

Key responsibilities for the HDD Rig Manager position include:

  • Provide leadership in Safety Excellence, ensuring compliance with client safety program, corporate safety program and OH&S legislation. Contribute affirmatively to The Crossing Company’s corporate culture of safety, quality and operational excellence.
  • Provide mentorship and direction to the Driller in relation to crew training, task assignment and supervision.
  • Oversee maintenance of drilling rig and associated equipment to ensure maximum operating readiness and sustainability, minimizing opportunities for equipment downtime. Ensure equipment is maintained to a state of repair consistent with The Crossing Company’s high standards.
  • Organize and supervise all mobilization and demobilization operations of the drilling rig and associated equipment.
  • Supervise all rigging and towing operations involved in mobilization and demobilization operations. Ensuring safe transportation through rough and steep terrain.
  • Direct, monitor and control all drilling operations to ensure compliance with the Construction Plan, and technical and environmental specifications.
  • Work closely with The Crossing Company’s Project Manager and Client Representative to ensure effective communication and execution of the Construction Plan and Management of Change.
  • Coordinate the acquisition and supply of goods and services in a manner consistent with project cost accounting procedures in close cooperation with the Project manager and Client Representative.
  • Have an intimate knowledge and experience in the roles of direct report.
  • Be aware of and follow company policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate and promote safety ownership
  • Work and communicate with office staff, crew members and client representatives in a professional and courteous manner

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience, experience in trenchless construction/HDD would be an asset
  • Class 5 Drivers Licence
  • Computer, email and mobile device literacy
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and excellence
  • Physically fit and able to perform required duties in all types of weather conditions
  • Able to successfully complete a Pre-Employment Drug, Alcohol and Health Assessment
  • Familiarity with the MS Office suite (including SharePoint) both in an office and mobile/field environment would be an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: the ability to work well with people from varying disciplines and technical expertise as well as communicate with clients in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to work under time and project pressures while still performing at a high level

Horizontal Directional Driller

Description:

As a Driller, responsibilities are training, directing and supervising the rig crew and the use of the rig equipment, in accordance with The Crossing Company's operational policies so as to safely and efficiently execute the HDD Construction Plan.

Key responsibilities for the Horizontal Directional Driller position include:

  • Conduct and record Tool Box meetings for the rig crew and achieve the participation and contribution of crew members.
  • Conduct safety inspections of rig equipment and report all maintenance and repairs required in timely manner.
  • Ensure that all activities, including those of third party contractors, are conducted using safe working practices and using the designated Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
  • Plan the tour operations and conduct pre-job briefings of J.S.A.’S for the crew on activities.
  • Train and direct the crew in fulfilling their designated duties.
  • Monitor and adjust the drilling parameters and take those necessary actions so as to optimize the drilling process and safeguard the integrity of the project.
  • Operate the rig equipment within its designated parameters in a manner to optimize the drilling process and associated activities.
  • Ensure the drill and immediate area is clear of personnel or obstruction prior to starting any drilling activities.
  • Assign crew members to conduct specific tasks during periods of routine activity and during special operations such as rigging-up/down and rig-moving.
  • Keeping accurate and complete records in a manner consistent with corporate standards.
  • Transport crew to and from work site.
  • Communicate in a courteous manner with customers on site
  • Understanding and being capable of all Tankhand / Roughneck duties

Key responsibilities for the Tankhand position include:

  • Training Roughnecks for both Roughneck and Tankhand duties.
  • Direct the crew in fulfilling their designated duties.
  • Control the physio-chemical and rheological properties of the drilling fluid.
  • Maintain the mechanical effectiveness and efficiency of the fluid handling and solids control equipment.
  • Maintain the physio-chemical and rheological properties.
  • Measuring properties including viscosity, particle size, distribution, percent volume of the solids phase, gel structure, reactivity, PH levels, Methylene blue index, and cation exchange capacity.
  • Quantify the mechanical capacities of the drilling fluid.
  • Assist in formation identification.
  • Data evaluation
  • Adjust or maintain the system by means of chemical additions and mechanical apparatus.
  • Full understanding of linear motion shakers, centrifuges, hydro-clones, positive displacement and centrifugal pumps.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of field repair of the fluid related equipment.
  • Demonstrate and promote safety leadership.
  • Be aware of and follow company policies and procedures
  • Work and communicate with office staff, crew members and client representatives in a professional and courteous manner
